Beattie donates iPads to local school
Saints legend James Beattie has made a personal donation of iPads to St Mary’s CE Primary School, ensuring that pupils can access home schooling during this difficult period of lockdown.
The club is proud of the work carried out by Saints Foundation as part of the
initiative, which includes supporting local schools to manage the challenges brought on by lockdown.
With the lack of access to IT equipment threatening children's learning during this period of home schooling, Beattie reached out to Saints Foundation to ask if there was anything he could do to help.
Saints Foundation were able to connect Beattie with one of their Premier League Primary Stars schools, St Mary's CE Primary School, so that he could donate ten iPads to be distributed to pupils most in need of equipment, helping them to access their teaching online when at home.
Sandra Miller, Interim Headteacher at St Mary’s CE Primary, was grateful for the donation: “During this lockdown, we’ve needed to make sure that children who are not in school can access the internet.
“Being in the backyard of St Mary’s stadium, we sought out the support of Saints Foundation and were delighted when they connected us with James. His kind offer of ten iPads will make a huge difference in supporting our pupils. Thank you.”
James Beattie commented: “I wanted to help to make a difference. It’s obvious that so many schools and children across the city and beyond need support at the moment, so I’m really pleased to be able to help in some way. To be able to contribute gives me so much fulfilment, and, most importantly, I really hope that the donation helps those most in need to continue with their learning.”
Head of Saints Foundation Greg Baker added: “James is such a great guy, who is always willing to help out whenever and however he can. He truly cares about our local community, so it was a pleasure to link him up with St Mary’s in order to help him make such a generous donation.”
St Mary’s CE Primary is appealing for further support to make sure that their pupils don’t miss important schooling during this lockdown. If you can help out in any way, please contact Kevin Brown, School Business Manager at [email protected].
