Southampton's Kyle Walker-Peters praised his side's hard work on the training pitch that led to three points on the final day of the regular season against Leeds.

Saints saw off early Leeds control to open the scoring through Adam Armstrong's 21st goal of the season, but the hosts equalised shortly after through Jöel Piroe.

Walker-Peters was heavily involved in the response that followed, as he teed up Will Smallbone who scored a goal that proved to be the crucial difference at Elland Road.

"I thought we played really well," the full-back reflected, "we tried something new today, worked really hard on it on the training pitch throughout the week and I think we showed it's something we can definitely use"

After a relentless period of games, Saints benefitted from a full week of training to prepare themselves for a return to winning ways ahead of the end of season play-offs.

"I think we should take a lot of belief [from the win], we're aware that we could end up playing this Leeds side in the [play-off] final, who are a good team but for the second time this season we've shown we can get the better of them.

"We won't get too ahead of ourselves, we've still got the games against West Brom and they have the games against Norwich, so we'll see what happens."

With attentions now turning to the post-season knockout action, Walker-Peters drew comparisons from his side's victory to the potential atmosphere against semi-final opponents West Bromwich Albion.

"It was an intense game today, the crowd was up for it and that's what we'd expect in the next games against West Brom.

"We know what we need to do to beat that side but anything can happen, they'll be even more up for it knowing we've beaten them twice but, like I said, we'll be going into it very confident and looking to beat them.

"We'll have some down time, we'll do some team bonding and then get back on the training pitch working hard for the first leg of the play-offs."
