Saints confirm home pre-season games with Lazio and Getafe
Southampton can confirm its Men’s First Team will conclude preparations for the Premier League season with two home friendly matches against high-level European opposition.
Saints will host Italian side Lazio, at St Mary’s, on Wednesday 7th August (7.30pm BST) before welcoming Spanish outfit Getafe to the stadium on Saturday 10th August (2pm BST).
The games form part of a structured pre-season plan that will see Russell Martin’s team play face a total of seven friendly contests, including trips to Eastleigh, Oxford United and Millwall, as well as behind-closed-doors meetings with French clubs Bordeaux and Montpellier during this month’s training camp in Spain.
Two-time Serie A champions and seven-time Coppa Italia winners Lazio, under the guidance of new coach Marco Baroni, will head to the south coast after a seventh-place finish last season that secured them a place in the Europa League for the upcoming campaign.
They will be followed by established La Liga side Getafe, who were 12th in their division last season, and will represent the final summer opposition before Saints head to Newcastle for the start of the Premier League season on Saturday 17th August.
Tickets for both matches will go on sale to Season Ticket holders from 9.30am on Thursday, with full ticket information to follow soon.
