It was a quiet week for Southampton’s loan players during the international break, but a trio of players featured in league and cup action.

Lewis Payne made back-to-back starts for Newport County for the first time during his spell in South Wales, playing 90 minutes in both games across the week.

Newport were victorious against League One opponents Cheltenham in the EFL Trophy, with Payne helping his side keep a clean sheet in their 2-0 win.

The scoreline was reversed back in the league, however, as The Exiles lost against Swindon Town on Saturday.

Elsewhere, in the Southern League South, midfielder Josh Squires played his part with an assist off the bench in an important victory for Salisbury City that puts them third in the league.

Squires was introduced in the dramatic closing stages, with Salisbury one goal ahead against league leaders Gosport Borough - the visitors then missed a penalty to equalise before Squires teed up Josh Hedges to seal a 2-0 win.

Finally, in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round qualifying, Ollie Wright featured for Bath City as they were denied a place in the first round proper with defeat against league rivals Worthing.
