Larios suffers injury setback
Young defender Juan Larios has suffered an injury setback, manager Russell Martin has confirmed.
The 19-year-old hasn’t made a first team appearance since last November, and will now face another spell on the sidelines having recently resumed team training.
Issuing an update, Saints’ boss said: “We had a big setback with Juan. He’s no longer on the way back unfortunately, so he’ll be out for a couple of months still.
“Really innocuous, really frustrating for him and I’m really devastated for him. Such a brilliant, brilliant lad and deserves better luck than he’s had. So, Juan is again rehabbing, something that’s frustrating for everyone here. It’s no fault of his, no fault of the medical team, sometimes these things just happen.
“The amount of work gone into him, amount of care gone into him, way he’s been slowly reintegrated into the group, built him up really slowly, between the medical team and ourselves I’m not sure we could’ve managed the situation or taken it any slower than we have done, so it’s just one of those things, unfortunately for Juan.
“We’ll support him. He’s a brilliant young man, really top young player, really starting to get into his groove and we started to enjoy watching him. He’s such a smooth footballer and so aggressive as well. It’s another hurdle for him, another difficult period for him to overcome, and we’ll support him all the way through.
“When he does get to a point where he can contribute, he will hugely. A really outstanding young talent and we have to be a bit more patient and take our time and get to the bottom, or try to, as to what caused this and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
