Girls' and Women's Football

In partnership with the Hampshire FA, AFC Totton and Saints Foundation, Southampton Football Club are delighted to be hosting Girls’ Football Week from Monday 1st April to Sunday 7th April 2019.

 

To help inspire the next generation of female footballers across Hampshire, we will be providing a week of FREE activities that cover all aspects of the game. From playing to coaching, refereeing to volunteering, there will be something for all ages and abilities to try. You will be able to get an insight in to the incredible work that is already taking place in Southampton and be part of it, meet new friends and have fun!

Activity Information

Open Training Session – “Find Your Feet”
Monday 1st April 2019  |  6pm – 7pm  | Testwood Stadium, AFC Totton

Saints Foundation are working with AFC Totton to deliver our "Find Your Feet" Open Training Session. Aimed at encouraging girls and women aged 10+ to get involved in football, this can be your introduction to the beautiful game or your return to it. Come down to Testwood Stadium for 6pm and meet some of the Southampton FC Women's players who will be there to show their support.

Saints Foundation Female Futsal
Monday 1st April 2019  |  6pm – 7pm  | Richard Taunton’s College

Come along and try Futsal! The small sided version of the 11-a-side game is great for working on close ball control and dribbling. Whatever your ability, beginner or advanced, this session will provide girls aged 11 – 16 the chance to take part in the game and develop their skills with fun drills and matches.

Saints Foundation Club Football
Monday 1st April 2019  |  6pm – 8pm  | Hythe & Dibden YFC, Applemore College

The Saints Foundation Club Football session with Hythe & Dibden YFC is perfect for girls looking to join a team and play regular, competitive football. As with all of our Girls’ Football Week activities, this session is free and again caters for all abilities.

Saints Foundation Girls Game Night
Monday 1st April 2019  |  5pm – 7pm  | Goals Soccer Centre, Millbrook

Another ‘turn up and play’ session, but this time for girls aged 14-16 years old. Girls Game Night is a great opportunity to take part in fun and organised football games. This session will provide more playing time and you don’t need a team, you can just turn up and start playing matches organised by qualified Saints Foundation coaches.

Open Goalkeeping Session
Tuesday 2nd April 2019  |  5.30pm – 8pm  | Southampton

Southampton FC are keen to encourage female goalkeepers from Year 4 to Year 11 to attend this session with their coach. The aim is to offer training and information in an elite environment and players will be coached by Southampton FC Girl’s and Women’s Goalkeeping coaches and have the opportunity to train with our Goalkeepers as well! The session will be interactive with the goalkeepers participating and the coaches observing.

Year 4 to Year 7 will be from 17.30-19.00
Year 8 to Year 11 will be from 18.30-20.00

Sports Science & Medical Careers Evening
Wednesday 3rd April 2019  |  6pm – 8pm  | Southampton

See first-hand what it's like to work in the professional football industry by joining us at our Sports Science & Medical Careers Evening on Wednesday 3rd April from 6pm-8pm. From athlete monitoring to Strength and Conditioning, the session will give students from year 9 upwards the fantastic opportunity to explore world class facilities, expand their knowledge of the industry and meet the staff that work behind the scenes with our first team.

An Evening with Marieanne Spacey-Cale MBE
Thursday 4th April 2019  |  6.30pm – 9.30pm  | Testwood Stadium, AFC Totton

Ever wondered what it takes to be an England player and an England coach? Well this is your opportunity to find out and see one of the best female coaches in action! Join us on Thursday 4th April for an evening with Marieanne Spacey-Cale MBE, Southampton FC’s Head Coach. With 91 caps for England and a professional contract in her playing career, Marieanne will share her experience as a player but also the journey she has taken in her coaching career that has led to an UEFA Pro License, a bronze medal with England U16s at the Nordic Cup and a 2015 World Cup Third Place as assistant coach.

The evening will also include an opportunity for you to watch Marieanne in action as she prepares Southampton FC for their fixture on Sunday 7th April. Hampshire FA will also be in attendance to discuss the coaching pathway and you will gain CPD hours for this event as well as entry into a free prize draw to win a Level 1 Coaching in Football Award!

Referee Work Shop
Friday 5th April 2019  |  7pm – 9pm | Southampton

The Referee Work Shop is a great opportunity to meet some of the current female officials in the game, who will discuss their experiences and advise on how to become a referee.

The session will be an interactive workshop, aimed at those who want to become a referee as well as those who already are but are seeking further advice and support on developing and networking. Have you ever tried playing a game of football without a referee? Now is your opportunity to find out more!

Free Entry for Females – AFC Totton vs Cirencester
Saturday 6th April 2019  |  3pm | Testwood Stadium, AFC Totton

Females go free at AFC Totton’s fixture against Cirencester Town on Saturday 6th April. KO is at 3pm at the Testwood Stadium so make sure you head down nice and early to grab your ticket.

Skills Zone Open Session
Sunday 7th April 2019  |  12pm | Testwood Stadium, AFC Totton

Ahead of Southampton FC Women's fixture, we're giving you the opportunity to come along and test your footballing skills in the Skills Zone with Hampshire FA. Can you hit the crossbar? Can you run at speed accurately with the ball – well now is your chance to find out! Open to all ages from 8-15 years old.
