Hailing from Porto-Novo in Benin, Richard Bakary signs up as a Saints scholar having been at the club since April 2014 after spells at Chelsea’s academy and at Welling United.
So soon after joining Southampton’s youth ranks following glowing scouting reports, the full-back made an immediate impression in training to be thrust into Southampton’s Under-18 plans for a substitute appearance towards the end of last season.
‘Ricardo’, who enjoys forays down the flank and beyond opposing defences, bases his game on that of Barcelona’s Dani Alves in terms of the attack-minded styles they share.
Bakary made 16 appearances for the Under-18s during the 2014/15 season and following a further 22 matches for the under-18s in 2015/16 he signed a professional contract with the club.
