Southampton Cup

Under-7s Community Tournament

There were smiles all round for the excitable under-7s in the first day of the Southampton Cup Community tournament at sunny Wide Lane Sports Ground.

Spirits were high throughout the day as teams from across the country competed in round-robin stages whilst putting on an entertaining show for both management staff and spectators on Sunday 6th August.

Players were rewarded for their fantastic efforts at the end with shiny medals and a warm applause from proud families, friends and coaches.

Teams included: Pickwick Lions, Greenfields Falcons, Fareham Town, PG10, Sholing, Pace, Champion Sport Group, Denton and South Heighton and Hythe and Dibden Predators.

From celebration handshakes between players and managers, promising football skills and everyone enjoying themselves, the tournament was deemed a success.

One of the matches that stood out was Sholing’s 3-3 draw with Pace Tigers in group B. The Tigers’ number 11 scored a hat trick in less than five minutes which included two perfectly placed free kicks and earned his team a point against the red and white stripes.

Welsh team PG10 A beat Pace Cougars 6-0 before losing out in a 4-2 battle against Champion Sport Group.

Fareham Town lost 4-1 to Greenfields Falcons whilst Pickwick Lions Blues beat PG10 B 3-0. Denton and South Heighton won both their final two matches 2-0 against Hythe & Dibden Predators and Pace Cougars.

In group A, Hythe & Dibden Predators beat Pace Cougars in a 4-0 victory. A penalty was struck into the roof of the net by (Samuel) number four and a free kick scored by number 12 contributed to the win.
