Chelsea Under-14s vs Porto Under-14s
Porto Under-14s impressed on Sunday after dismissing Chelsea Under-14s with a comfortable 2-0 victory.
Two goals in the first half from their full back and number nine were enough to allow them to see the game out after the break.
Despite the Blues’ best efforts, the Porto keeper did not have much to do throughout the clash.
Straight from the off, Porto pressed Chelsea high up the pitch, not allowing their defence to settle any nerves.
However, The Blues withstood the pressure, and began to settle into the game. A free kick in a promising position from their number eleven was met with a wall of bodies and was deflected out of play.
Porto’s left back began the game well and drifted in a delightful cross which was met by the number nine, but the striker failed to generate enough power to best the keeper.
Chelsea may have taken the lead ten minutes in, had it not been for Porto’s number 3, who put in a scintillating last-ditch challenge to keep the game goalless.
After a struggle for domination in the middle of the park, The Dragons began to get a stronghold on the game.
A free kick was awarded to the Portuguese side, and was whipped in at pace. This time, the number nine was not going to squander a second chance, muscling off his marker before sending the ball beyond the keeper’s reach.
It didn’t take long for them to double their lead, after number 17 found some space on the right-hand side, drilling in a low cross, which fortunately bounced into the number two’s path, who had no trouble beating the keeper from close range.
Chelsea came out aggressive in the second half.
Their winger managed to find the number ten who fired straight at the keeper from close range, but number seven was there to follow up. To Chelsea’s dismay however, the flag was raised for offside.
A couple of poor miskicks from the Chelsea keeper allowed Porto’s number 7 to pounce, both times finding a player in space, but to no avail.
Chelsea did not let up, but the Porto wall remained strong and the game began to fizzle out.
Tempers spilled over with the final whistle, causing the ref to intervene.
