Lis added to the ranks
Southampton Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Polish goalkeeper Mateusz Lis on a five-year deal, pending work permit approval.
The 25-year-old joins as a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Turkish club Altay SK, where he made 35 appearances in the Süper Lig last season.
A former Poland youth international, Lis strengthens the club’s goalkeeping department following the recent departures of Fraser Forster and Harry Lewis.
Starting his career at Lech Poznań, where he was a teammate of Jan Bednarek, he progressed through the youth ranks and gained valuable experience for the club’s second team, also learning his trade on loan with three different clubs in the Polish second tier.
After five years in Poznań, Lis made 69 appearances in the top flight for Wisła Kraków, where he spent three seasons prior to his move to Turkey in 2021.
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl said: “Mateusz is a player who has a lot of the right attributes we look for in a goalkeeper, and still with his best years ahead of him.
“Of course, it was a priority for us to strengthen this department in the summer, and Mateusz is an important addition who we hope will be able to help us in the future.”
