Forever Saint award: The Wallace brothers
Southampton Football Club was privileged to welcome Danny, Rod and Ray Wallace to St Mary’s, as it presented the Forever Saint award to the trio.
All three brothers were honoured during half-time of the Premier League win over Arsenal, receiving a rousing ovation from the crowd.
They were the latest recipients of the award, which celebrates incredible contributions made both at Saints and in the community by ex-players, club servants and community champions.
The brothers each made memorable contributions to the team, while they also played together in the same Saints side in the 1988/89 season.
They made history in October 1988, when they first played together, against Sheffield Wednesday, at The Dell, in what was the first time that three brothers had appeared in any top-flight encounter since 1919/20.
Between them, they made 514 appearances for the club, scoring a combined 135 goals, with Danny – who lives with multiple sclerosis – having long held the record for the club’s youngest debutant, until it was broken by Theo Walcott.
