Hasenhüttl encouraged by performance

Responding to defeat at Arsenal at the weekend, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl saw plenty of positives from his side’s performance against Crystal Palace.

In London for the second time in five days, Saints fell behind after just two minutes courtesy of Wilfried Zaha.

However, growing into the half, a stunning James Ward-Prowse free-kick and equally impressive Armando Broja finish turned the game on its head at the break.

Frustratingly for the visitors, André Ayew struck just past the hour-mark to force a draw, leaving Hasenhüttl to reflect on a much improved display from his side.

“[I’m more happy] with the performance more than the result, I must say, because we had in the second half only one chance given away.

“In the first half, especially in the beginning, we were a little bit lucky to not be two down, but in the end you take the point and it feels okay.

“When I watch the game again I don’t know how I’ll feel then, but it’s important that we take something here because the performance was okay.

“It was a super goal from Prowsey, super second goal from Broja and this is what you need in such a moment.

“We have played well in that part of the game, absolutely until the half-time fantastic, the response after the first conceded goal. Then in the second half, also not really struggling but one chance was enough for them to score and this is a little bit of a pity because otherwise we would have more points for us.”
