Hasenhüttl: An important point
Ralph Hasenhüttl was left largely impressed by his side’s display as Southampton were twice pegged back by Leicester to settle for a 2-2 draw in the Premier League.
Returning to St Mary’s for the first time following back-to-back away games, Jan Bednarek made it the perfect start by netting after just three minutes.
The visitors levelled through Jonny Evans before Ché Adams put Saints ahead at the halfway stage. However, James Maddison found a second Foxes equaliser just four minutes after the restart to round off an entertaining affair.
Claiming a point after successive defeats, Hasenhüttl was encouraged by his side’s performance.
“I think the first half was brilliant, I must say. Everything we wanted to do was working perfect, and in the second half we had immediately a chance for scoring.
“We then conceded the equaliser which was a little bit of a booster for them and it was hard for us to find our rhythm back. You could feel in the end our power was getting a bit down.
“We were still fighting and going for the third goal, but gave them two big chances with Kyle [Walker-Peters] – this was definitely something that usually kills you, but an important point on the board for us in the Premier League.”
Facing Brighton at St Mary’s on Saturday, the Saints boss is looking for more of the same from his side.
“We have only two days now for recovery, but the opponent has the same so it’s important now we’re really trying to recover well and then we go again.
“We need the same crowd, same support as today. It was a fantastic game for the fans and a real intense, good game.”
