Saints continued their perfect start to the National League Southern Premier season with a 3-0 win over Crawley Wasps on Wednesday night.

After a tight end-to-end first half, goals from Lucia Kendall and an Ella Pusey double sealed another three points for Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s confident side.

When it comes to confidence Ipswich match Saints stride-for-stride, also showcasing a perfect record to start the season with ten wins from ten.

Their last outing in the league came away at Plymouth Argyle, where goals from Zoe Barratt, Lucy O’Brien, Paige Peake and substitutes Maddie Biggs and Natasha Thomas sealed a comfortable afternoon.

After a strong crowd in attendance at Wednesday night’s victory over Crawley, Saints will need more of the same on Sunday in order to gain an advantage over their promotion rivals.

It’s only been two weeks since the two sides occupying the top of the division last met, this game coming in National League Cup action.

It was a competitive affair at the Goldstar Ground, with Ipswich backed by over 600 home fans in attendance.

Saints secured progression with 11 minutes remaining, Kendall curling an audacious effort into the far top corner with a goal worthy of winning any game.

At the other end Saints keeper Kayla Rendell made sure of the victory with a vital save, tipping over a late Sarah Brasero-Carreira effort.

“It’s a top of the table battle,” said Spacey-Cale. “We’ll make sure we reflect on Wednesday night and reflect on the game we played at theirs a couple of weeks ago in the league cup.

“The game before was a great cup tie and the Ipswich fans were fantastic. I think it gave them a real edge. For us we want the same, we want a crowd that will come down and will sing, cheer, bring drums, bring anything to make a noise.

“We know it’s going to be tense; we know it’s going to be competitive. If we can pack this stadium out, if we can get these supporters in, that would be such an amazing experience.

“They were great in support on Wednesday, people turned out and it was cold. Now it’s about bringing real energy on Sunday. It could be the real difference in the game.”
