Carabao Cup second round date confirmed
Southampton will travel to face Newport County in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday 25th August (7.45pm BST).
The cup tie in Wales will fall between Saints’ first home match of the season against Manchester United and the trip to Newcastle United, and will represent the first time the two sides have met competitively since 1968.
The Exiles currently sit 13th in League Two after two games, but narrowly missed out on promotion via the play-offs last season, with Michael Flynn’s side losing 1-0 to Morecambe in the final at Wembley.
Ticket details for the trip to Rodney Parade will be announced later this week.
