Adams: It's not good enough
Ché Adams provided an honest assessment of Southampton’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham in the Premier League.
Despite an inspired first-half performance, Saints failed to claim any points on the road in North London.
Danny Ings’ thumping header charged Saints in front of a somewhat lacklustre Tottenham side, but the tables turned in the second-half where former Saint Gareth Bale led the home sides comeback.
“It’s devastating to lose it in such a way,” Adams admitted. “When we competed so well in the first half and to let it slip with a silly foul around the box it’s obviously not good enough.
“These fine margins you get executed for in the Premier League and to compete at the highest level you need to be on it every single minute, we competed so well in the first-half and we let it slip in the second.
“That’s the main thing – to come out flying, because that’s what we’re so good at. Pressing high up and the energy in the squad but it’s just about consistency, which is the hardest thing in football.
“There’s plenty to focus on in a week. We’ve got such a long week now and that’s what makes the loss so difficult to take but we’ll be in tomorrow and hope to put things right.
“It’s always great to play with this team, they’ve helped me so much on and off the pitch. Everyone gets along so well and it’s always nice to have an input into the team.
“Obviously I had a chance in the first-half where I should’ve scored but these things happen, so it’s just about picking myself up and picking the rest of the team up to go again.
“We need to show everyone what we’re capable of and how we started the season so well. We did it last year when we went through a rocky spell but we came out on the brighter side so it’s about doing that and staying together, because no one else is going to help us.”
