Southampton Football Club is delighted to announced young defender Kayne Ramsay has signed a two-year contract extension.

The 20-year-old, who is currently in his fourth season at St Mary’s, has committed his future to the club until 2023.

Ramsay completed a switch from Chelsea in 2017 and has gone on to make three first-team appearances, whilst also enjoying a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town.

Looking to gain further senior experience after a successful run of games for the club’s B team this term, Ramsay said: “I’m happy, but now I’ve got to work hard. I’ve got to push onto the next step and put my head down and work hard.

“It’s been a long, hard four years with ups and downs of course. I think I’ve grown as a player not just on the pitch but off the pitch with my understanding of what’s going on and how to go about things.

“I’m happy to be in and around the squad, travelling to games, gaining more and more experience and hopefully my time will come again and I’ll be ready.

“Watching players like Kyle [Walker-Peters] and Bertie [Ryan Bertrand] play, it’s inspiring for me. I’m looking up to them and hopefully looking to have a career like they’ve had.”

Ramsay has featured in eight of Ralph Hasenhüttl's matchday squads so far this season, whilst also being a mainstay of Dave Horseman’s B team side.

Academy Director Matt Hale said: "It's been great to see Kayne feature regularly in recent weeks as part of the first-team squad.

"Kayne is developing and maturing all the time, learning more and more about the senior playing philosophy.

"It is great to see Kayne commit to the club and continue his progress. We have great confidence he will continue to grow and be a part of the club's future."
