Southampton FC Women saw their impressive FA Cup run come to an end at MK Dons Ladies, as they were beaten 4-0 in Sunday’s second-round tie.

Having advanced all the way through the qualifying stages and the first-round proper, Marianne Spacey-Cale’s team faced their biggest test by far, as they took on a side a number of tiers above them.

Playing at Stadium MK, Saints put up a good fight but were ultimately unable to overcome their opponents from the FA Women’s Premier League South East.

The hosts led after four minutes, when Leah Littlechild was sent down the right, drilling in a low cross for Leah Cudone to slot in.

The same pair linked up again seven minutes before half-time to double the lead, Littlechild again picking out Cudone to head home from six yards.

Hopes of a Saints revival were effectively extinguished in the 71st minute, as Littlechild turned scorer, with her low cross eluding everyone and going straight in.

There was time left for Cudone to complete her hat-trick, as she converted from yet another Littlechild cross in the 86th minute.

Saints’ attention now turns back to the Southern Region Women’s Premier division, as they host Woodley United at AFC Totton’s Testwood Stadium next Sunday.

Kick-off is at 2pm GMT, with tickets £2 for adults and free for concessions, while Saints Season Ticket holders receive free entry on production of their Season Ticket cards.
