Maya Yoshida and Jan Bednarek will be looking to finalise their World Cup preparations and cement starting places in their respective squads in a pair of international friendlies on Tuesday.

Yoshida’s Japan were beaten 2-0 by Switzerland in Lugano on Friday and now face Paraguay in Innsbruck today at 2.05pm with a first pre-tournament victory firmly in their sights.

The Samurai Blue kick off their Russian adventure at this summer’s finals against Colombia in exactly seven days' time at the Morovia Arena in Saransk.

Later in the day, it will be the turn of Bednarek’s Poland. Joining Japan in Group H at the finals, the EURO 2016 quarter-finalists will wave off their home supporters with a final warm-up fixture against Lithuania at the National Stadium in Warsaw.

Saints' Bednarek (third from left, back row) has staked a real claim to feature for Poland at the World Cup after a strong end to the Premier League season.

The Saints defender completed the full 90 minutes in his team’s 2-2 draw with Chile last week and will see this evening’s match as a fine opportunity to stake his claim for a starting berth against Senegal in Moscow on 19 June.
