Cédric signs off World Cup warm-up with win

Southampton defender Cédric signed off his World Cup preparations by playing the full 90 minutes in Portugal’s 3-0 win over Algeria.

PSG winger Gonçalo Guedes fired a brace, while fellow youngster Bruno Fernandes was also on target in Lisbon.

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his 150th cap by making his first appearance since winning the Champions League with Real Madrid last month, but was unable to mark the milestone with a customary goal.

Portugal’s next test will represent a significant step up – they face Spain in their Group B opener next Thursday, before games against Morocco and Iran.

Cédric will hope to continue as the team’s starting right-back when he heads to Russia for his first taste of the World Cup following a triumphant Euro 2016 campaign.
