Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed that Sofiane Boufal could return to the Southampton squad for Saturday’s trip to Burnley.

The Moroccan missed the Emirates FA Cup win at West Brom last weekend with injury, but is back in training with his teammates ahead of the Premier League trip to Turf Moor.

Maya Yoshida, however, will be sidelined for “four or five weeks as a minimum” according to the boss.

Charlie Austin is still not fit to return, while Shane Long and Steven Davis are unlikely to feature at Burnley, but the pair could be in contention for next week’s home game against Stoke.

“This is part of our job,” said Pellegrino. “When you have a squad of 22, 23, 24 players, you need them to be ready when you have something unexpected, like injured players.”
