Mauricio Pellegrino is hoping for another good atmosphere at St Mary's this weekend, but says the onus is on the team to help create it.

Saints host Everton, at St Mary's, on Sunday, as they look to end a run of three Premier League games without a win.

Pellegrino has been extremely appreciative of the backing the fans have given his side this season, but says the team must help them in generating an atmosphere through their performance.

"We respect the people and I think the people have to receive the messages from the people on the pitch," he said. "We have to show our character from the beginning and our spirit as a team, and this for me is the most important thing.

"The people will receive our messages, and we are responsible to do it. I think we are prepared, we are ready and we have to do it."

Pellegrino added: "It will be really positive for us to see how we can react after the last game and it's another opportunity to show how we are in this moment.

"It would be three important points, because we need to get some positive results to try to improve our confidence and our belief in our job.

"We play against a good side, who are not in a good moment – Everton more or less feel the same like us. They need to get a result, but we are ready to play."
