Following his match-winning heroics against West Bromwich Albion, Sofiane Boufal spoke of the determination he had to take his chance when it came along.

The Morocco international produced an entry for the Premier League's goal of the season, running three-quarters of the St Mary's pitch and beating man after man, before curling a sublime low shot into the bottom corner in the 85th minute to give Saints a vital 1-0 win.

"For substitutes, the most important is when you come on you help your teammates, whether you have one minute, two minutes, ten minutes, 20 minutes – the most important is to do the best to help your teammates and it's what I did when I came on, and in the last weeks against Stoke City and Newcastle," said Boufal.

"I am so determined because I want to help my teammates and to win. The most important is to show on the pitch what you can do and how you can help your teammates."

Boufal is hopeful that the moment of magic he produced will not only make a big difference to his season, but also the team's.

"The most important is the team, and we won, we took three points," he said. "This game is very important for the future, and I hope it will help us for the next game, at Brighton, and for the future ones.

"I just want to think about the future. I work hard. Sometimes in football you have good moments and sometimes you have bad moments, but the most important is to be confident about yourself. I am happy, because I hope this goal helps me for the future with Southampton."
