Alfie Jones wants to see Southampton Under-23s return to winning ways this evening, when they take on Aston Villa in the Premier League 2.

The Saints youngsters have suffered back-to-back league defeats following their 4-0 win over Reading on the opening day of the season, and Jones wants to replicate the performance that earned them that convincing victory tonight.

“Reading was a very good performance and we scored four goals as well, so you can’t really ask for anymore,” he started.

“We want to take elements of that performance into this game against Villa and move on from our past results to put things right.

“It’s good that we’ve had a bit of extended time to regroup after the last few performances. We want to stay together now and push on from here, starting with Aston Villa.”

Villa currently sit fourth in the Premier League 2 table, just three points above Radhi Jaïdi’s men.

And Jones knows that Saints will have to overcome a tough battle to pick up all three points pull level with them.

“It’s be a good test for us,” he continued.

“They will be quite a physical team but also one that will like to get it down and play, so it will be a different type of challenge for us.

“It will be a good test that we will need to overcome and put in the right performance to get a good result.”
