Mauricio Pellegrino believes Southampton have signed a player who can not only help them immediately, but who can improve even further in the future, in Wesley Hoedt.
Saints completed the signing of the Dutch international centre-back from Lazio on Tuesday, with the 23-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.
Pellegrino was delighted to see Hoedt added to the squad, and believes he can be a real asset to the team.
"Hopefully he can help the team," said the manager. "He's a young boy, left-footed, with quality. Hopefully he can adapt quickly to the dynamic of the team and can help the team to be stronger."
Hoedt spoke of wanting to grow with the club after completing his move, and that is exactly what Pellegrino is hoping will happen too.
"The way of Southampton is to try to bring young players to grow with us and to be with the team three, four or five years together," he said.
