Monday’s matches in the inaugural Southampton Cup once again produced plenty of goals and great performances.
One of the most anticipated games was the clash between Chelsea and the Football Kenya Federation in the Under-14 Academy section, as the eight-day festival of football continued on the south coast.
The Blues responded brilliantly to Sunday’s loss against Porto by beating their opponents 6-1.
The scoreline was harsh on the Kenyan side, who performed far better than it suggested, but they were up against an impressive Blues outfit.
Chelsea now sit three points behind Porto, after they maintained their perfect record with a hard-fought 2-0 win over their Isle of Man counterparts, featuring a goal in each half.
In the Under-12s Academy section, Bournemouth also kept up their excellent start, as they beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1.
They had to come from behind to do it, though, having trailed 1-0 at the interval, before striking three times in the second half, to follow up their opening 6-0 victory over Plymouth.
In the same group, Southampton’s Under-12s kept pace with the Cherries, as they beat Plymouth 2-1 to back up their 4-1 victory over Brighton in their opening fixture, setting up a decider with Bournemouth for top spot.
