Fraser Forster has described the impact of Southampton's new manager Mauricio Pellegrino as "awesome".

Saints appointed the 45-year-old from Argentina as the club's boss earlier this summer, with the players now having had a few weeks to work with him.

"I think he's been awesome – his whole demeanour and the sessions he's put on," said Forster.

"He knows exactly how he wants us to play, how he wants the team to work and how he wants individuals to work within the dressing room as well.

"He's been fantastic and a real breath of fresh air. I think all the lads have really bought into him and are looking to move forward."

Forster this week signed a new five-year contract at St Mary's, extending his commitment until 2022.

The 29-year-old described Saints as "a fantastic club to be at", and paid tribute to the work that Head of Goalkeeping Dave Watson has done with him.

"Working with Dave every day is fantastic for me," he said. "Before, I'd had him at England and I knew how good a coach he was.

"To get to work with him every day is fantastic for me and I'm proud to do that."
