Having signed a new five-year deal, Jack Stephens now wants to repay Southampton for the support they have shown him.
The 23-year-old also admitted that it was not a hard decision to commit his long-term future to the club.
“I love it here,” started Stephens.
“It’s a great club and we’ve enjoyed some good times here. Hopefully now we can push on and have so more good times together.
“I know how much support the club has given me and I am very grateful for it. I just want to keep developing now and hopefully repay them.”
Stephens will return for pre-season under new manager Mauricio Pellegrino later in July, due to his involvement with England at the Under-21 European Championship.
And he is looking forward to learning from the Argentine, who was also a centre-back during his playing days.
“I think it is always going to be a positive that the manager played in the position that I do,” he continued.
“Hopefully he can help me develop and pass on his experiences to me to help me become a better player.”
