Saints defender Cédric played the duration as Portugal lost out on penalties to Chile in their Confederations Cup semi-final.

The full-back helped preserve a clean sheet across 120 minutes as well as providing a threat from the wing in attacking areas.

Cristiano Ronaldo went close twice late on in normal time, but it was Chile who should have been ahead in extra-time.

Mauricio Isla’s teasing cross was inch-perfect for Alexis Sánchez, but he couldn’t guide his header in from around 10 yards out.

They had a penalty appeal turned down when Jose Fonte brought down Francisco Silva in the box, before Arturo Vidal and Martin Rodriguez hit the bar.

But they were not to be denied as Claudio Bravo saved all three Portuguese spot-kicks to send Chile into the final.
