Davis helps Northern Ireland to vital victory

Southampton captain Steven Davis helped Northern Ireland to a last-gasp 1-0 victory over Azerbaijan in their latest World Cup qualifying.

Davis, who played the full 90 minutes, also went level with David Healy as the third-highest capped Northern Ireland international with 95 appearances.

The Group C clash looked to be heading towards a stalemate after Azerbaijan had squandered opportunities through Ramil Sheydaev and Afran Ismayilov.

But Stuart Dallas registered his first international goal two minutes into injury time with a right-footed effort after being teed up by Jonny Evans.

The result means Michael O’Neill’s men move on to 13 points from their six games so far and remain in second place behind Germany.
