Maya Yoshida captained Japan to a 1-1 draw with Syria in their latest friendly.

The Blue Samurai fell behind in their final preparation match before next week's crucial World Cup qualifier against Iraq, as Mardik Mardikian struck shortly after half time to give the visitors the lead.

It only took 10 minutes for the hosts to fight back, though, as Yuto Nagatomo teed up Yasuyuki Konno to level on 58 minutes and ensure a draw at the Ajinomoto Stadium in Chõfu.

Yoshida played the full 90 minutes at centre back for Japan, alongside Marseille's Hiroki Sakai.
