Southampton Football Club’s Official Betting Partner SportPesa funded a trip for Club coaching staff from the Football Development Support Centre to work with a Kenyan Development Squad in partnership with the Football Kenyan Federation.
The Nairobi-based training camp ran over 6 days and was a chance for the Club’s staff to work with players in the National programme.
As part of an ongoing project to help improve the standard of football in Kenya, with the end goal of helping the nation qualify for the 2022 World Cup, the team delivered three days of technical and tactical based sessions incorporating the Southampton Way.
On the fourth day, the players' learning was showcased in an 11v11 in-house game.
The final day of the camp was set aside for recovery and debriefs for the players, giving them the opportunity to reflect on their learning from the previous three days.
Speaking on the trip, Danny Maye, Lead Youth Development Phase Coach said: "The trip to Kenya was a great success. Our staff worked closely with the FKF Development Squad, sharing our values and philosophies, all while implementing the Southampton Way with the aim of turning Potential into Excellence.”
Sport Pesa Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri said: “As we look towards 2022, the stars who will play in the World Cup for Kenya will come from the younger group so Southampton Football Club was a perfect fit to train our young players.”
