Claude Puel has told his Southampton players to enjoy the final game of the season and ensure they keep hold of their position in the Premier League.
Saints bring down the curtain on their 2017/18 campaign at home to Stoke City on Sunday, and a win would seal a fourth consecutive year in which they have finished in the top eight of the division.
Puel said: "I think it is important to play for something in this last game.
"It is an opportunity to finish the season strongly at home, in front of our fans – it’s fantastic.
"The season has been so long and perhaps it was difficult after the [EFL Cup] final to come back in the Premier league, but, with a good spirit and good attitude and strong work in the training sessions for the players, we can continue this work.
“The possibility to finish higher up the table is very important for us and it’s a good opportunity to enjoy this game, because to finish with a strong game is a good thing for the squad."
Of what he is hoping to see from his team, the Saints manager added: "I think it’s important to play and to have a lot of opportunities to score, and I think with confidence, with quality, and with a good attitude, we can finish strongly and we can enjoy our game for us and for our fans.
"We know it is important for the people and it will be a good thing."
