Jack Stephens wants to see a positive response from Southampton when they take on Middlesbrough this weekend.
Saints travel to face the newly-relegated Boro on Saturday, and Stephens is keen to approach the game with a positive mind-set.
“We’ve got to go into the Middlesbrough game confident of winning, which I am sure we will,” he explained.
“Of course we know it is going to be a tough game, but we need to go there full of energy and positivity.
“They are very solid at home and are not going to just roll over for us, even though they have just been relegated.”
The trip to the Riverside gives Saints a chance to bounce straight back from their disappointing midweek defeat to Arsenal.
And Stephens feels there is one key lesson that needs to be learned from that defeat at St Mary’s.
“When we are on top we have got to score,” he continued.
“Equally, when we are defending and up against it we have to make sure that we give nothing away at our end.
“We are disappointed with both ends of the pitch tonight because we couldn’t stop them scoring and couldn’t get anything away up top.”
