Southampton have to start making the most of their dominant spells in matches, according to defender Jack Stephens.
Despite a promising first-half display against Arsenal, second-half strikes from Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud earned the visitors a 2-0 win at St Mary's.
“I think especially in the first half we played really well,” started Stephens.
“We created some good opportunities. Then in the second half we came out and looked the better side for the first ten or 15 minutes.
“But unfortunately we then conceded and that makes it a lot more difficult for us to get back into the game. Obviously we are very disappointed with that.”
Despite suffering defeat to the Gunners, Stephens admitted there were some positives to take from the game.
“I think we more than matched a good Arsenal side for the majority of the game,” he continued.
“So we can take a lot of credit from that, but there has got to be a time when we start to put these games to bed.
“I think we had some good opportunities and we limited them to very few clear-cut chances but we have to be able to make the most of that.”
