Southampton Under-18s were pegged back late on against Swansea City at Staplewood Campus.

Saints took a second-half lead thanks to Tyreke Johnson's penalty, but were unable to hold on for all three points as Sean Hanbury headed in with just five minutes to spare.

The visitors almost flew to an early lead in the Under-18 Premier League fixture. Captain Liam Cullen skipped into the penalty area after just two minutes and fired low at goal, but his strike bounced clear off the foot of Adam Parkes’ near post.

Saints responded and Will Smallbone almost found a way through with a superb free-kick from deep. Though his dipping effort somehow managed to elude the queue of Saints shirts at the back post.

Harry Hamblin then got in on the act and after a marauding run from right-back crossed for Jonathan Afolabi at the back stick. Though the Irishman was unable to steer his header the right side of the post and take a lead into the break.

Saints did eventually get their breakthrough midway through the second half. Smallbone sent Johnson tearing into the penalty area and he beat goalkeeper Alex Lang to the ball before being pulled down.

The Saints winger then brushed himself down and stepped up to convert the spot kick with confidence, sending Lang the wrong way.

Now with the lead, Craig Fleming’s men looked keen to double their tally. Substitute Michael Obafemi held the ball up well and slipped in Johnson once more moments later, but this time Lang denied him from close range.

The visitors were not ready to lie down and soon started to build some pressure of their own.

First Cullen was denied twice by a sea of blocking Saints bodies before the rebound was then returned into the box and substitute Hanbury headed in to equalise and earn a share of the points on 85 minutes.
