Claude Puel says Southampton must not let the memory of their EFL Cup success against Liverpool underestimate the task ahead at Anfield tomorrow.
Saints triumphed 1-0 when the teams met in the second leg of their semi-final earlier in the season, as they advanced past the Reds 2-0 on aggregate.
They now head back to face Liverpool for the first time since that night – and for what will be the fourth time this season – but Puel expects this to be a completely different type of encounter.
"We know Liverpool well now, and for them it's the same,” said the Saints boss. "We have good memories against them from the last games, but this is another game.
"It's the Premier League, and we know it will be difficult to play against them at Anfield, because they want to qualify for the Champions League next season, but it's a good game for us.
"We like this game, with intensity, rhythm and pressure. It's a good thing for all the squad to keep the good concentration and the good motivation until the end of the season.
"I think it will be a different game. It's not two games for the cup. It's another game and we cannot stay just with the memory of what we have done against Liverpool – we need to prepare this game with the strong focus about our game and our qualities, to defend together and attack together and to give a good answer also after our poor game against Hull City."
