Oriol Romeu was the man of the moment at Southampton Football Club’s Player Awards on Thursday evening.
The Spanish midfielder picked up both the Fans’ Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season following an excellent Premier League campaign.
Romeu, who joined in 2015 from Chelsea, was voted Saints’ player of the season by both the club’s supporter and his teammates on a special night at St Mary’s.
Maya Yoshida was also rewarded for his fine season, as he won the President’s Choice award, which was chosen by Terry Paine MBE.
The Japan international took on a lead role across the Saints backline in the absence of Virgil van Dijk and recently made his 100th Premier League appearance against Hull City.
Sofiane Boufal also picked up an award during his first awards ceremony with Saints, as his Sunderland strike was awarded Goal of the Season.
The Moroccan received 31% of the voting to see off Jay Rodriguez’s AFC Bournemouth strike, which got 29%.
Elsewhere, youngster Jake Vokins was awarded Young Player of the Season, following a fine season for the Under-18s and Under-23s.
Vokins, who was unable to collect the award due to being at the European Championships with England Under-17s, made huge progress throughout the year and penned his first professional contract in March.
Phoebe Williams picked up the inaugural Player of the Season for the Girls’ Regional Talent Club.
As well as being the Under-16s captain, Williams has moved to represent England Under-17s this season and made a huge impact off the field during Southampton Regional Talent Club’s first year.
