Claude Puel has expressed his delight at being able to welcome both Charlie Austin and Matt Targett back to training today.
Though the Southampton manager has warned that a return to Premier League action is still some way away for the duo.
“I am happy that they can come back for the training session,” explained Puel.
“But we know they haven’t played for a long time, so it’s important for them to find a good rhythm and intensity now – this will take some time.
“I hope Charlie can participate before the end of the season with the group. For the moment it’s just important for him to make progress and get physically fit.”
Puel once again earmarked the Under-23s’ season-ending fixture away to Manchester City as a possible return date for Austin.
“I hope he can play next Friday with the Under-23s,” he continued.
“That will be a good thing for him. Then we will see if he can come back with the group, which I would be very happy to see.”
