Claude Puel wants Southampton to elevate their performance from what they produced last time out, against Manchester City, when they visit Premier League leaders Chelsea tonight.

Saints head to Stamford Bridge looking to earn a win that would reinforce their position in the top half of the table and disrupt the Blues' title bid.

After a 3-0 home defeat to City in their last game, Puel says his team have something of a point to prove this evening.

"We know it's a difficult game, but it's a good opportunity after our game against Manchester City to produce some good play on the pitch and I hope we can go up against this team," he said.

Puel is optimistic that Saints, who won 3-1 in the corresponding fixture last season, can cause Chelsea further problems tonight.

"We have good players also," he said. "It's important to play. I found against Manchester City it was not enough for us, because we cannot play our game without the good intensity.

"The technical side of it was not enough and it's important to play without other things in our head. It's important to play good football and to enjoy our game, because I was frustrated against Manchester City."
