Southampton Under-23s cannot dwell on their 2-2 draw with Liverpool for too long, insists centre-back Ollie Cook.
Saints had a two-goal advantage pegged back in the closing minutes at St Mary’s, and Cook now wants to see a positive response against Derby County in the penultimate game of the season.
“It’s very disappointing to lose the way we did,” he explained.
“Being 2-0 up, like we were in the last game against Manchester United, and then throwing away two points again.
“So it is a bit flat in the dressing room after that, but we need to pick ourselves up and go again next week against Derby because that’s an important game for us.”
Cook played 90 minutes in the Premier League 2 encounter alongside the experienced Martin Cáceres.
And the 19-year-old enjoyed the experience of playing alongside the Uruguay international.
“It’s a great learning curve for me,” Cook continued.
“It’s good to learn from players that have been there and done it at the very highest level.
“Also having the experience of learning how to work with a new player from a different country and with a slightly different football culture.”
