Alfie Jones believes Southampton Under-23s are set and ready to make the most of their final three games of the Premier League 2 season.
Saints host Liverpool at St Mary’s tonight, following a four-week break since the 3-3 draw away to Manchester United in their last outing.
“It’s been a good mood ahead of this one,” explained Jones. “After a long break we want to get playing and back into the run of games, so we have been training hard and are now looking forward to it.
“We did well in the United game and should have won really, but we’ve taken the positives from that, regrouped and been working hard on things in training.”
During the break from Under-23s action, Claude Puel called 19-year-old Jones up to the first-team squad for the visit to Tottenham Hostpur.
Despite not being named in the matchday 18, Jones still reflects on the experience as being a positive one.
“It was an unbelievable experience,” he continued. “I learned a lot from being around the first team squad and seeing what they do in the build up to games.
“It’s good to get that little experience and hopefully I can take that with me through my journey now and continue to learn from them.”
