James Ward-Prowse believes the comeback victory over Crystal Palace was a significant one for Claude Puel’s men.
The 22-year-old, who completed the 3-1 scoreline for Saints, also took time to praise the character shown by his teammates.
“It was a very important win for us,” started Ward-Prowse.
“The sign of a good team is a good run of home form and hopefully this can be the start of that for us.
“It’s not nice going behind in a game but I think it shows the character that we’ve got in the dressing room, and the way the fans got behind us to spur us on was superb.”
The win against Palace was Saints’ first home victory since January, as they now move up to 9th in the Premier League table.
And with games in hand, Ward-Prowse explained that the squad still have high hopes for the rest of the season.
“Of course we want to get back into Europe,” he continued.
“That’s a big ambition, of course, and whether that’s achievable or not is down to us – we have to win a lot of games.
“But we’ve got a game in hand so we have to make sure that we take full advantage of that and then we can start to move back up the league.”
