Freeman signs first pro contract

Southampton Football Club is pleased to announce that teenage defender Kieran Freeman has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The right-back, who is part of the club’s Under-18s squad, has put pen to paper on a deal until June 2019.

Freeman joined Saints from the Dundee United youth ranks last summer, but has had to endure a long spell on the sidelines this season, after suffering a knee injury.

However, he is well on the way to playing again and has been given another boost with his first pro deal.

Freeman, who has just turned 17, said: "I've only played a handful of games, all friendlies. I've not really been able to show what I'm capable of yet, but I'm glad that it happened here, because the physios have been really good at getting me back fit, and I can see it in sight now.

"I should be doing a bit of ball work next week maybe and then get with the squad in a few months and then next season I hope to play quite a lot, play well, show what I'm capable of and why they signed me, and see where it takes me."
