Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has some history in his sights, as he prepares to bring his team to Southampton for tomorrow’s Premier League clash.

The Cherries have never won an away game against Saints, losing eight and drawing four in their previous 12 attempts.

the supporters feel the importance of this game.

They come into this latest south coast meeting in impressive form, though, having taken seven points from their last three matches.

"It’s a case of looking at the game, knowing its importance, especially with the games we’ve got to come," said Howe.

"We’ve never won away at Southampton and we want to create history.

“From our perspective, it is a slightly different game. They’re the nearest club to us, so the supporters feel the importance of this game and we respect that.

“We acknowledge that it’s a difficult game and we want to get a result for the supporters.”

It was Saints who prevailed when the sides met earlier in the season, as Claude Puel’s men came from behind to win 3-1 at Vitality Stadium, but Howe intends to use that as motivation this weekend.

“It was difficult because of the result,” said the Cherries boss. “We played well in the first half, but in the second half Southampton were the better team. That lingers, so we want to put that right on Saturday.”
