Maya Yoshida captained and scored for Japan as they recorded a comfortable 4-0 win over Thailand in their latest World Cup qualifier.
Yoshida completed the full 90 minutes for the hosts, who broke the deadlock after just eight minutes through Shinji Kagaw. That was before Shinji Okazaki’s 50th international goal doubled the advantage on 19.
After the break, a dominant display continued when Gent forward Yuya Kubo added a third, and Yoshida then climbed highest to head home Hiroshi Kiyotake's corner from close range.
Thailand had the chance to reduce the arrears late on when they got a penalty, but Teerasil Dangda missed from the spot.
Japan now sit top in World Cup qualifying Group B, three points ahead of Saudi Arabia who face Iraq at 6.30pm.
