Maya Yoshida led Japan to a 2-0 victory over the United Arab Emirates in their recent World Cup qualifying clash.

The Southampton defender captained the Blue Samurai for the first time in his career at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.

Yuya Kubo's first-half strike gave Japan a well deserved lead at the break before Yasuyuki Konno then doubled the score and confirmed the victory on the 51st minute.

The result sees Japan remain joint top of Group B with Saudi Arabia, who saw off Thailand 3-0 earlier in the day.
