England debuts for Redmond and Ward-Prowse

Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse made their senior England debuts in Dortmund, as the Three Lions fell to a 1-0 defeat away to Germany.

Ryan Bertrand also played 82 minutes in the game before being replaced by former Southampton Academy graduate Luke Shaw.

Gareth Southgate’s side dominated the opening half and could have gone in ahead had Adam Lallana’s low drive not bounced clear off Marc-André ter Stegen’s far post.

Redmond was then introduced in the second half to inject further attacking impetus, as the Saints winger replaced Lallana with 66 minutes on the clock.

England were then punished minutes later by a fine strike, as Lukas Podolski rifled into Joe Hart’s top corner to mark his final German international appearance with a goal.

Despite Podolski’s strike eventually proving decisive, there was one final moment of pride for Saints as Ward-Prowse made his senior England bow, replacing West Bromwich Albion’s Jake Livermore on 82 minutes.
