Josh Sims believes Southampton Under-23s should have come away from Old Trafford with all three points.
The Saints youngsters had a 2-0 lead but were pegged back by the hosts, who struck three times in 15 minutes to pull ahead.
Ryan Seager’s late penalty then eventually secured a draw for Radhi Jaïdi’s men, but Sims felt they should have taken more from the game.
“There’s mixed emotions, really,” he started.
“It’s disappointing to be 2-0 up and then not go on to win the game. We were in a good position and felt we should have won the game.
“We started well and had some good chances in the first half. We should have just carried that on into the second, but unfortunately we didn’t.”
Sims netted the opener for Saints after just 16 minutes, as he latched onto a loose pass and slotted low under the goalkeeper.
And the 19-year-old was pleased to get more minutes under his belt as well as adding another goal to his tally.
“It’s always good to get game time,” he continued.
“There is nothing better than getting match fitness and 90 minutes under your belt; also to score and get the confidence up in front of goal.
“Hopefully I can get a few more minutes between now and the end of the season, be that with the Under-23s or if someone gets injured in the first team and I can take my chance.”
