James Ward-Prowse is hoping to carry the momentum built up in recent weeks into Saturday’s clash against high-flying Tottenham Hotspur.

Southampton have recorded back-to-back away successes in the Premier League, scoring eight goals in that time.

Indeed, not since 1976 have Saints scored so many away goals in successive games when they netted a total of 15 goals in three successive games away from The Dell.

Reflecting on that form, Ward-Prowse said: “It’s been a whirlwind to be honest. We’ve picked a few good results and obviously had the great occasion that was the Wembley final.

“That wasn’t to be but we showed great character in the way that we bounced back and showed the depth of that character in the win at Watford.”

He added: “Football revolves around momentum and I think we can carry into the Tottenham game.

“They’ve got a bit of momentum themselves and I think it’ll be an important game to win heading into that international break.”
